What will you study?
RCSI Bahrain’s medical programme is a core five-year programme.The six-year programme provides a one-year preparation stage in advance of entry to the core five-year programme.
The Medicine programme for School Leavers and Mature Entry students is outlined below:
- Foundation Year (two semesters)
- Year 1 (two semesters)
- Year 2 (two semesters)
- Year 3
- Year 4 (Senior Cycle 1)
- Year 5 (Senior Cycle 2)
In Foundation Year and Year 1, you will be taught in a mixture of lectures and small group teaching involving tutorials, anatomy practicals and clinical skills training.
In Year 2 and Year 3, you will participate in small group simulation scenarios with state-of-the-art simulators, progressing to Year 4 and Year 5, where you will be attached to consultant-led (senior physicians) teams in a hospital setting.
Throughout your studies you will be provided with continuous appraisal, mentoring and case presentations on an individual basis, along with frequent reviews of your clinical progress with senior clinicians in the clinical years.
Entry requirements
Applicants will be selected for admission to the five or six-year entry point of the medicine programme on the basis of open competition using the following criteria:
- Basic eligibility, i.e. achievement of minimum academic and English language entry requirements.
- References and life experience, i.e. work / life balance, extracurricular activities, relevant work or voluntary experience, etc.
- Performance at a structured interview.
During the application process candidates will be asked to indicate if they agree to participate in an online non-academic attributes assessment. If a candidate agrees they may be invited to participate in a pilot evaluation of this assessment tool. Whether a candidate agrees to participate or not will not impact a candidates application. A candidates result in the non-academic attributes assessment will not impact their application as the assessment is not formally part of the admissions process for the medical programme this current year.
The following requirements are the minimum standards for consideration for entry into the Undergraduate Medical Programme for the Academic Year 2023/2024. Attainment of these grades does not guarantee acceptance to the School of Medicine. Admission to the 5 or 6 Year Programme is at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.
Fees
For academic year 2022/2023, annual tuition fees for all stages of RCSI Bahrain’s undergraduate medicine programme are US$39,500 per annum (approx. BD 14,900) for Bahraini Nationals and $41,475 (approx. BD 15,595) for Non-Bahraini Nationals. The fees include the provision of a personal computer device for each student.

The fees are subject to an annual review and approval from the Higher Education Council and may change over the course of study.
A fee payment schedule will be further outlined in your offer letter. To confirm acceptance of your offer, a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the annual fee is required. Upon accepting your offer, you are agreeing to the conditions set out in RCSI Bahrain’s Fee Policy.
If your tuition fees will be paid or supplemented by means of a scholarship or sponsor, you are required to submit a letter of confirmation from the awarding body. If a valid sponsorship letter is not provided along with your acceptance of offer, conditions for self-funding will apply.

Applications to the Foundation Year (6 Years) programme are closed.
Please note the following documents are required for all applications:
- Certified copies of all academic transcripts and certificates from high school (Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 to date) and university (if applicable)
- Certificate of English language proficiency, i.e. IELTS Academic or TOEFL
- Scanned copy of passport showing name, nationality, date of birth and photograph page
- Scanned copy of CPR card/GCC identity card (if applicable)
- Academic Evaluation Form completed by your most recent school/university.
- Personal Statement addressing the applicant’s interest in and motivation for a career in medicine
The purpose of the personal statement is to provide the Admissions Committee with an insight into the applicant, the applicant’s motivations and their suitability for a career in medicine. The applicant should consider explaining the activities they have undertaken in preparing themselves for such a career. Please note that this submission should be your own work and not that of anyone else. If any plagiarism is detected in an applicant’s personal statement, the applicant will no longer be considered for admission to the University.
These documents must be uploaded during the online application process (incomplete applications cannot be processed by the Admissions Team).
Upon successful completion, each application will be reviewed by our Admissions team. If successful, applicants will be invited for interview at the University. The interview will be conducted by senior members of staff and will aim to assess the applicant’s communication skills, maturity, motivation and suitability for a career in medicine. Following attendance at interview, the Admissions Committee will consider each application in full and decide on one of the following outcomes:
- Issue an offer in full
- Issue a conditional offer – i.e. offer subject to the achievement of specified conditions
- Inform the candidate that they have not been successful and invite them to apply for other programmes
Please note that a non-refundable application fee of US$100 / BD40 is applicable at the final stage of the online application and is payable by credit card, or by cash when the applicant presents for interview.
